  • This week, the North Carolina Association of Educators is encouraging teachers to call out of work on May 1 for a mass march in Raleigh to protest for more funding for public schools. This call comes just days after the NC Supreme Court threw out the 2022 Leandro Education Funding plan.
  • A Durham-based family of four was detained by ICE at a routine immigration appointment in Charlotte on Monday and deported to Honduras, according to local officials and immigration advocates. The family, including two Durham public school students, Genesis, 11, and Denis, 6, had been in the U.S. for four years after seeking asylum in 2022, and had done “exactly what was asked of them,” Siembra NC
  • On Tuesday, Trump declared on Truth Social that if an agreement was not made by 8:00pm “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will.”
  • Senator Ted Budd said, in response to Trump’s comments, that. “The president needs to be very forceful, not just in his language, but in his actions,”
  • Mere hours before his deadline - Trump announced a 2-week ceasefire, stating it was “a great day for world peace.”
  • The ceasefire has proven to be extremely fragile - as Israel continues to attack Lebanon and shipping remains at a standstill in the Strait of Hormuz.
